i think youtube has tried to get me to do a premium trial like 1000x.
some people say it's good for playing music.

I've had YouTube Premium for a little while. I do think it's good for music, though I also like to browse & watch videos on YouTube sometimes, and it's nice to not have them interrupted with ads.

i now have ad-free youtube everywhere. Smarttube on FireTV, Revanced App Versions on Android and Brave Browser on Desktop (Linux Mint). And in case one wants to download Youtube Videos, yt-dlp on desktop or seal on android.

I've noticed various browser extensions have add-ons to block
the YouTube deal, but it's frustrating having to watch an ad for
10 seconds...then not 2 minutes later, here's another ad. At least
they can't stop you from muting the audio for it.

that has yet to happen to me. Blocking Youtube ads for quite a while on all devices and it is working just fine.
PS: i am on a dynamic IP (changing every 24h). but i'm not sure if they would really block IPs

Thats true. One of those apps that does not need you to login to youtube and keeps all "channel subscribtions" in a locally stoed list of channels. If you have alot of Channels you are subscribed to, it can take a while to refresh for new videos =) (it literally takes minutes to refresh 1209 channels ;) )

I have Newspipe installed, but more like a last line of defense, in case they would kill my youtube account for reasons of blocking ads or something.

I must be flying under the radar. I've been using ad blockers for years and I've never been blocked. If an ad blocker becomes ineffective, I just switch to another that is; I've only had to do that twice over a span of 10+ years.

I've been meaning to try something like a VPN, but I've just never looked into it. On an unrelated note... my Adblocker works great on Tubi. I can watch Columbo ad free!!!

Blocking IPs in this day and age would be suicidal. Most users connect from a CG-NAT this days, this means tons of users share the same IPs. If they blocked me for using an adblocker they could be blocking 64 other users, which is not in their best interest.

Thats what i thought. They would slowly kill their customer base, since IPs are not something to identify users over time.

I didn't use to be against advertisement. However, I am strongly against websites pushing random code into my web browser and executing it, which is precisely what most advertisements do.

You are paying for the bandwidth and computing power necessary to play the ads. Fuck them.

Except now the only way to make things work is by making them shitty as hell with advertisements and datamining. There is barely no room to bill for a service people gets from free tiers because people is used to not pay. That is the reason why Youtube is purposedly DESTROYING free video service, to force people to jump ship.

Youtube also gets malus points because the way they monetize advertisements is opaque as fuck. If you are the sort of person who is happy watching ads so video creators get a cut, I have news for you. The way video uploaders get paid is opaque as crap, the way advertisers are billed is opaque as crap. I remember hearing Youtube has a program in which youtubers pay youtube to get promoted so people watch their videos and generate ad revenue. WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK!!!!

And then you BUY a smartphone with actual money and it is loaded up with spyware so they can shove more ads up your ass. Advertisements are so entrenched in the industry that you cannot get rid off them even by paying.

So yeah, as far as I am concerned, advertises can go to hell, marketing people can go to hell, and I will deploy LAN level adblockers in every single network I administrate.

I don't think it conditions people to believe everything is for free. People understand that watching ads is a cost of not having to pay money for something. And advertisements are nothing new - Advertisements have been used for decades in television, newspapers, magazines, etc.. It's a way to provide income (or suppliment income) for the company making the content.

Many sites on the internet don't require users to pay money to use them, but they still need money to operate. They make money by selling ads or by collecting user data that they sell. Some sites do directly charge users a fee to use them so that they don't need to show ads or collect data (or maybe some do both). This should not come as a surprise to anyone, as it's a system that has been in place for decades.

Regular people does not know how Internet services are built or operated, considerations such as operating costs are out of the scope of their cognitive abilities.

Power users know these things require a cash flow to be viable, but when so many instances of a given service are provided free of cost you are teaching people not to pay for it. If you believe otherwise, I challenge you to set up an email service which includes calendars and contact management, and market it towards end-users.

Sure, commercial email systems for end users exist but they are usually built around specific niches and require tailoring to their specific audiences. Aunt Karen is not going to pay for a Startmail email account when she can use Yahoo for free.

Yeah, but guess what, things that are purely subsidized my advertisements are turning into crap blazing fast because the audience is not the customers. TV is crap, radio is crap. Magazines are still ok for the most part precisely because the ones that pack advertisements still treat readers as paying customers.

TV reach in Spain is plummeting fast because quality is not there, and you end up watching less stuff in exchange for watching more ads. Again, I don't remember people complaining about advertisement overload when I was a kid, but people has been complaining about TV advertisement abuse for more than a decade already, which IMO signifies there used to be no problem, and now there is.

I cannot emphasize the fact enough. There is a qualitative difference. It didn't use to be a big deal, now it is.

The fact my shameless advertisement got a downvote proves unrequested advertisements suck. Thanks for endorsing my point.

Frankly, I don't get why people simps for entertainment corporations these days unless they are corporate slaves themselves. It is not like people owns them anything. Either they work for you (in which case they owe you good service) or they work for third parties (in which case you owe them zero).
