• Auto create FTN areas

From Rick V@VERT/FILECABI to All on Thu May 15 08:47:40 2025
    Hello All.

Right now when I get a FTN echo area that I don't have setup in SBBS, it show up in the sbbsecho.log as a passthru. Is there a setting to get Synchronet to auto create the FTN area?

    Thanks,
    Rick V

Well, it exactly answered the specific question that you asked.

If you'd like me to search the Wiki and give you more info, I'd suggest searching (on the Wiki) for things like:

    auto create
    areas.bbs
    sbbsecho.ini

    Or even these specific terms:

    AutoAddSubs
    AutoAddToAreaFile

    And this configuration utility:

    echocfg

Let us know if you need more info!

They have been set to "True".

I've been testing my setup by deleting the "BBS Ads" message area in fidonet. That area is in my areas.bbs with my uplink, and of course backbone.na. SBBSECHO keeps treating as a passthru. I'm just trying to figure how to get sbbsecho to "create" a new message area.

Well, how did you do it in the past? What I do is actually create the
new message area/echo in SCFG, and then there is a choice in each
message group (network) to export the network information. You can
choose to export it to 'areas.bbs' or some other choices. It will also
ask you whether you want to append or overwrite, be careful with that
    choice.

Once you have an 'areas.bbs' established, and you're adding or removing
only a single (or a few) echos, I find it *FAR* easier to just manually
edit the areas.bbs file and be done with it. But it all begins with
creating (or deleting) the echo area in the message group, in SCFG.

SBBSecho can't modify your msgs.ini file. But you *can* import the badareas.lst file (created optionally by SBBSecho) into SCFG (even automatically) if you really want to.
