Ehhhh. OK. Largely didn't do it for me, though I did like the concepts more or less (the puberty, the acne/makeup thing, the rivalry with Skinner in particular). Still pretty short even with the insanely long couch gag.
DYN:
...a 20-year-old Dangerous Minds reference?
Previous episode stuff
AABF09: "Max Power" is a setting in the La-Z Rider couch gag
3F21: Lisa's talk of how admitting you're not cool makes you cool is reminiscent of Marge's line then
Meta/running gags
There were a lot in this episode. Some I noted were the "Skinner is a wiener" graffiti, Lisa's "becoming a squeaky-voiced teen" (transitioning into doing the
voice while imitating a fast-food SVT), Snake's prisoner number of 7F20, Lisa's
mention of her "lampshade dress"
Friends
For those who don't know, episode titles of Friends generally start with "The One With" or "The One Where" (the way people would tend to describe TV episodes
before knowing offscreen titles became easy). This makes Bart's interrupted question a bit amusing.
And finally (repeat alert)
If I hadn't had to put off my viewing of the episode until today, I might not have even noticed the interesting coincidence that David Bowie's heterochromia is referred to, and then he died just last night. I wonder if the line will be altered in any way for repeats. I imagine not, since it's not that major or morbid, but we'll see!
