A Boeing C-32A aircraft carrying US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth made an unscheduled landing at RAF Mildenhall, a British air base, on Wednesday evening. The cause was a crack in one of the cockpit windows.

The aircraft, registration 98-0002, departed from Brussels Airport around 5:00 PM local time en route to the United States. Shortly after the aircraft was over the Atlantic Ocean, a crack developed in one of the cockpit windows. The crew then decided to return.

The pilots transmitted an emergency alert, after which the C-32A (a military variant of the Boeing 757) descended to an altitude of 10,000 feet. The aircraft ultimately landed without further incident at RAF Mildenhall, an air base regularly used by US military aircraft.

Minister Hegseth had visited Brussels earlier this week for a two-day NATO meeting attended by several defense ministers.
