My Niece's kids would be on their Tablets just about all waking
    >> hours if they were not forced to do other things.

I have told this story before but you could sit one of my ex-g/f's kids
    >down with a tablet playing some children's video on youtube and she knew
    >what suggestions to click to switch it to rap music (with uncensored
    >lyrics) within 3 or 4 clicks. She was 4-5 years old.

I have a niece who plays roblox, which is a game where they have caught
    >adults trying to have private chats with minors. Not sure she still plays
    >it now.

Yes, that's a worry probably with all games that support private chat.
I'd certainly try to have them playing games that were just on their
Tablet, not online live with other people, at least not unsupervised.

I know My Niece's kids can play against each other Tablet to Tablet
which gives them that live action sort of thing and at least that's
safer than being online with who knows who..

That said, her daughter at about age 7 figured out how to order
new games online and charge them to dad's credit card so I suppose
in most cases they know more than the parents realize.. B)

Ha, yes.. A true vacation.. B)

For ages here we had to walk a couple of hundred feet to the top of
a bit of a hill to use cell phones, but eventually they upgraded the
service and we get fairly good reception now.

I use a cell phone for all my data. I'm miles from the nearest Bell
box and it's so old it can barely handle standard land line service,
forget anything like cable or Fiber Optics. If we want exceptional
Internet here we need to go to Satellite dishes..

It is good that they have figured that out. It gives them someone known to play with.

I think that is where the danger lies... kids pick up on that stuff faster
than their parents do in many cases.

I just got back early - a winter storm that was supposed to dump a
couple of inches of snow ended up forecast to leave 6-9 feet by the end
of the week. We high-tailed it out last night and just caught some
    rain.

We watched Death on the Nile, the new-ish remake, and John Wick. Played
Wii, went for a walk on a snow-covered beach and relaxed.

Yes, and at least the parents there are into tech as much as most people.
It used to be a lot worse a few years back when the adults were barely
able to use eMail and the kids knew it all..

At the rate that tech evolves, I still think that kids are ahead of their parents... maybe by not as much as they were 30+ years ago, but they are
    still ahead.

That would be quite a storm.. Might leave you stuck there until spring.. B)

After a rather nasty winter for the most part we are just coming off
of a run of several days slightly above freezing, and nights not much
below freezing. But you can't get complacent, it's still a little
early to not get hit with some serious cold and snow here..

When I got up this morning and looked out the window I thought
that it was a white-out snowstorm going on, but it turned out to
be snow white fog.. Never seen fog look that white. It lasted all
day and I'm not sure how long after dark, but we didn't get any
    new snow anyways..

TCP/IP or some of the fundamentals of the tech they use.

Probably true in many/most cases. There is a percentage of kids who
become experts at the tech but there are probably a lot more who just
know how to work what they use and don't learn much extra.

I think that is very true... they can work a smart phone but don't even

I spent 5 or 6 months in Florida when I first stopped working for other
people thinking it would be great to get away from the cold but I gave
that up after a while. Winter down there isn't exactly beach weather
where I was, not that I'm a big beach person anyways, but I missed
    having all the seasons.. B)

Also, back then it was even colder than now. These days -30c (-22f)
is pretty rare where I am but back in the late 80's you could
expect to hit -40c (-40f) now and then..

Other than the odd cold day it's not so bad now. It's getting up
close to or slightly above freezing quite frequently during the
day and it's a whole lot easier to heat the house.. B)
