• Ubuntu 26.04 Bug?

    From George@invalid@invalid.invalid to alt.os.linux.ubuntu on Wed May 6 02:22:06 2026
    From Newsgroup: alt.os.linux.ubuntu

Is this a bug or what? The File Manager or whatever it is called is
missing "Other Locations" as shown in this image and high-lighted with a
    red text.

    <https://mega.nz/file/79gnEKqL#S8hyxiKPa9IpYgmCDxHn_lVeXLXt8LEovWA9bOiW3ZU>

How can one navigate to other folders? I know I can do it in terminal
but some of us still prefers files GUI version.

I have checked in 24.04 and it is there so why did they remove it in 26.04?

    From Terminal

nautilus admin:/// # nautilus prefers this instead of a sudo launch, not that you'd be doing this
    # The interface is too ugly/toylike for admin work.

nautilus /// # unelevated top of tree

seems to get you to the top of the file tree, as "slash".

Comparing two different versions of Gnome (a Zorin VM I had handy, versus UBU2604)

you can see the "Other Locations" has been replaced
with "Network", and the missing bit is "Computer", the
ability to visit /usr and /bin and the like.

And that is certainly design intent and not a bug.
Maybe this is an example of a locked-down corporate file manager ???

Kind of override found here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1546149/other-locations-dont-appear-in-nautilus-file-manager
    Also, what Paul said: <10tef24$u3ti$1@dont-email.me>

As other have said it's a design choice. Simple fix is:

    1) CRTL+L to show full path in location bar
    2) type "/" to g to root
    3) CTRL+D to create a bookmark.
    4) Right-click on the new bookmark "/" below Downloads and rename "Computer"

Now you have a bookmark to your computer's root

I think it is because for their desktop editions they focus on friendly
for newbies. Not too difficulty to tweak, but if you want something OOTB
for more advanced users there's Arch
