Title: Whether you mentor yourself or others - you need this book!

Review: Overall this has been a great read - really well put together and clearly written with superb advice and wonderful further reads and additional resources. I've worked as a mentor with the Professional Leadership Program at UNT for the last 10 years and I think it would be a great resource for people who want to become mentors and really want to bring value to their mentees. I can also see an individual without access to a mentor working their way through this and getting very close to the real deal experience and outcomes.
A few things that stood out for me:
• Love the sets of questions, they provide great starting points for gaining insight and for self-examination. They really should help a person to get their bearings.
• The chapter summaries are very helpful and give additional structure to the book
• Love the way the chapters build on each other, yet, even if you did just some of the exercises you'd get a lot of benefits
• Great online resources - the book gave me some links that I didn't know before and that I will check out!
• The book dispenses some tough love, but the author is also prepared to call it like it is - people should get decent pay for their work, and time we spend at work is time of our life we won't get back. Too many work guides and mentorship books gloss this over and tell people they should accept unpaid or low-paid work and be grateful for the opportunity.
I will definitely come back to this book quite a bit to work with my mentees, but also to adopt some of its lessons in my own life.

Title: Very practical and actionable advices

Review: I liked this book is to give you practical and actionable advice rather than to give you big but abstract ideas to be successful at work. There are 48 lessons in the book organized by 11 chapters including the bonus ones. It was a quick read and each lesson was presented with realistic and relatable examples that fit the contemporary work environment. I would definitely recommend this book especially to the junior employees who start their career. As other reviewers mentioned, the online resources links are very helpful to go further on each lesson.

Title: Great Investment - Author Clearly Cares

Review: While reading this book I felt the author was mentoring me the entire time. This book is designed for multiple types of people. Wether you are a mentor, manager, or someone who wants to self-promote this book will cover both the basic and advance steps to get you where you want to be. As someone who has been a manager in retail for over 12 years, I was able to not only pick up on steps that I have recognized in my career but also steps that I have overlooked (Building My Brand). I never thought to keep a folder on my work computer AND at home in order to remember the successful project/results. This book will benefit those who either have began mentoring others or have not had strong mentor in their life.
There are two sections of the book I am very impressed with. The first are the "Additional Resources." Not only were they appropriately placed it shows the author cares more about the reader than self-promotion. This is something that is rare in the world. The second section that stands out are the "Questions to Ask Yourself." A strong mentor is good at following up but the best start with engaging associates in self-reflection.
My slight criticism for the book is the repetition of some of the chapters/lessons. Self-help books are hard to find that do not become repetitive. Chapters nine and ten each have structure but could have been condensed into one category. The author was able to articulate the differences between his lessons (i.e. sincere feedback vs. seek to understand) in a fashion that he is able to reach more than one type of audience.
Overall this is the best book I have read in organizational learning, managing and human resources. Whether you are advanced or a novice at coaching yourself this book can greatly improve how you approach work.
