I am pleased to see that Bernd Paysan maintains gforth in Debian.
The version is still 0.7.3 but the good news is that gforth remain
    officially in Debian.

Win version is not maintained at all and it's a six year old 0.7.9 ;)

    Try WSL2

Heathkit was premised on the idea that the customer should assemble the
product and that there were enough enthusiasts prepared to do so. Where
is it now? Torvalds thinks it's a bad model too.

    I don't see it in Debian 13 "trixie". https://packages.debian.org/search?suite=trixie&arch=any&mode=path&searchon=contents&keywords=gforth

Debian did not include Gforth in Debian 13, with the root cause being
that the former maintainer did not have enough time. Debian 13 has
been released, and it won't grow additional packages later; Debian
point releases are only for bug fixes (at least that's my
    understanding).

But the package by Bernd Paysan is now in unstable and testing, and
will hopefully be included in Debian 14 "forky".

If you are running Debian 13, I recommend installing Gforth (either (preferably) a recent snapshot or 0.7.3) from the tarball at <https://www.complang.tuwien.ac.at/forth/gforth/>.

The news was that there was a new maintainer. That is the precondition
that bugs can be fixed. I saw 4 bugs marked high. Apparently that
hinders having gforth to go in the latest release.

I tried to build 0.7.3 recently, and it is a tribute to Debian and gforth
that after many years the build from source still works.
    Open source rocks!

However, gforth-0.7.3 disables dynamic native code generation with the
code produced with gcc-7 and later; there is a workaround for that in
the development version, and in the Debian package that Bernd Paysan
    built.

Another interesting story is that I recently built gforth-0.3.0 on
AMD64 (which was not tested when it was released in 1996, because
AMD64 only came out in 2003), and the result ran just fine.
