I fully agree with you, but find this a losing battle. People will continue
to engage with these toxic troll touting some rationalization of countering
the bullshit, but in reality they just add to the problem. Starve the
trolls of the attention they crave.

It doesn't matter. I've found many other groups where there are more
    people who are:

    -polite
-humble and/or genuinely subject matter experts (and not snide about it)
-can talk about a shortcoming of iPhones v. Android w/o making it a
black and white battle for the souls of the human race
-broader range of valuable inputs and insights
-no trolls (not very long anyway)
-no moderation delay - but a-holes get ejected within hours if not minutes

So I tell myself at least once per week not to bother coming here ...
and one day (probably soon) I will heed my own advice. And by "here" I
    mean usenet (I use about 6 NG's).

A surprising "venue" that I'd never used is Telegram. A local group of
tech enthusiasts use it and I've joined in for a narrow participation
around a particular system. (Très nerd).
I find the Telegram format to be very pleasant. Seems to be moderated
but I don't see moderation occurring.

Reddit is a vast area and it's hard to find "the right place" (I don't
spend enough time on it, so hard to find "the right place").

Same, because the signal to noise ratio here is substandard due to the unchecked trolling activity. Look at the group's current activity as an example.

Reddit is a vast area and it's hard to find "the right place" (I don't

You have some control over what shows up in your Home feed on Reddit. So
your place can look however you want in that respect. And there are
moderators (though that can cut both ways).

Once you use it a bit more regularly it's not that hard; r/ios and r/iphone
are decent. Trolls like arlen just can't survive there. The problem with technical subs is that they are full of newbies asking non-technical
    questions.

There's a niche usenet could fill if it wasn't for all the trolls and bickering.
