    It must be true.

I did not at first notice the footnote that specified that the
memory was "refurbished." (How does one refurbish a memory stick?)

But the price is even more outrageous considering that this
    is used or pre-owned memory.

I suppose that the demand for DDR3 is still high and that's
the reason for counterfeit sites like this:

You can go to eBay and get new DDR3 RAM for a whole less than this. A little over $21 (shipped) for 8 GBs of RAM. A-Tech just puts their sticker over
    known brands of RAM.

FWIW, I have bought lots of RAM from A-TECH over the years. It is fine. Plus they have 132,000 reviews with a 99.7% record. That's damn good.

The link the OP posted is for "gaming memory"? WTH is that? RAM is RAM when the specs are the same. Looks like a total scam to me. Besides, what "gamers" are running an antique PC with DDR3 RAM?

I found the same Crucial part number on E-bay and decided to
    take a chance:

    <https://www.ebay.com/itm/198171230270?mkevt=1&mkpid=0&emsid=e11400.m144671.l197929&mkcid=7&ch=osgood&euid=3716e0f0d11c4a74a579a7211cc6ee3f&bu=45787442054&osub=-1%7E1&crd=20260621133903&segname=11400>

The web page now shows "out of stock" so I must have bought the
    last 2 pieces.

I will test them myself with Memtest86+:

Wow that is a MUCH more realistic price. $50 beats the hell out of $250.

The ebay memory is "used" memory and, according the information provided,
has only been tested to ensure that the pair is matched.

I did a bit of research and it seems that there is a big difference
between "used" memory and "refurbished" memory.

Refurbished memory is given diagnostic and stress testing and is
often certified and warranted. That likely accounts for its much
    higher price.

Used memory is just pulled from a recycled machine and packaged.

But for $50 I'll take the chance with used.
