One of my GNU/Linux machines is based on the Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H
motherboard with a Core(TM) i7-4770 CPU.
This machine is already over 10 years old but, due to my highly
customized GNU/Linux system, it performs on par or better with
current systems (and I have the benchmarks to prove it).
However, it only has 16 Gb of RAM memory. Rather than scrap it
I would like to add 16 Mb more RAM memory. This should then serve
as a valuable system well into the future.
But, even for this "ancient" hardware, memory prices are outrageous:

I don't think DDR3 is even made any more. I doubt AI is to blame.
Rather the "new old stock" profiteers.

You can go to eBay and get new DDR3 RAM for a whole less than this. A little over $21 (shipped) for 8 GBs of RAM. A-Tech just puts their sticker over known brands of RAM.

FWIW, I have bought lots of RAM from A-TECH over the years. It is fine. Plus they have 132,000 reviews with a 99.7% record. That's damn good.

I found the same Crucial part number on E-bay and decided to
take a chance:

The web page now shows "out of stock" so I must have bought the
last 2 pieces.
I will test them myself with Memtest86+:

Wow that is a MUCH more realistic price. $50 beats the hell out of $250.
