Trump Mobile's T1 Phone Is Just an HTC U24 Pro, iFixit Teardown Finds
'What you have is not an 'American-Proud Design,' but a phone designed in China, made in China, with the vast majority of parts sourced from China,' iFixit says of Trump Mobile's T1 handset.
The long-delayed Trump-branded T1 phone is basically an existing HTC phone with only a few small modifications, according to a new teardown from
repair provider iFixit.
The site got its hands on the T1 phone through NBC News, which brought it
to iFixit's office. The team discovered the device is nearly identical to
the HTC U24 Pro, released in 2024.
“The internals are nearly an exact match for the HTC U24 Pro,” iFixit says, citing an X-ray taken of both devices. The process for disassembling the T1 was the same as for the HTC device. iFixit also swapped the main chipboard inside the T1 to an HTC U24 Pro and ran it with no problem.
The findings confirm earlier suspicions from both iFixit and other users on social media that the T1 is merely a reskinned, gold HTC U24 Pro, based on
the physical similarities.

There are a few differences, though. The speaker grill on the bottom and
the camera bank on the rear feature slightly different designs. The T1 also runs a slightly larger 5,000mAh battery limited to 30W charging, rather
than HTC’s 4600mAh 60W battery.
“I strongly suspect that someone wanted a phone that looked unique, but
thanks to the Trump Mobile team’s self-inflicted timeline, they were forced
to abandon any fanciful goals involving a larger design change and settled
for achievable ones: a small modification to the back cover and a repositioning of the [camera] flash,” added iFixit lead technician Shahram Mokhtari.
The T1’s mainboard contains a memory chip from Micron rather than SK Hynix. But iFixit says this is another relatively small difference, explaining
“the change may have occurred due to supply chain limitations, tariff fee considerations, or any number of other benign reasons.”
iFixit also looked for signs of where the phone was made. Trump Mobile initially claimed its goal was to develop an American-made device, but
later backtracked and changed the language to "proudly made right here in
the USA." The battery comes from the Philippines, and the chips are from Qualcomm. Still, the teardown suggests Trump Mobile is simply sourcing the product from HTC, which has been spotted using a contract manufacturer in China to produce the U24 Pro.
“Put those bits of information together, and what you have is not an 'American-Proud Design,' but a phone designed in China, made in China, with the vast majority of parts sourced from China. I’m failing to find any stirring of American pride within me,” Mokhtari wrote.
Trump Mobile didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. However, iFixit noted that sourcing the T1 from HTC can help Trump Mobile keep costs down. It continues to sell the T1 for $499 through a preorder waitlist; Walmart sells the 512GB HTC U24 Pro for $524.99.
That said, iFixit speculates Trump Mobile could be assembling some parts of the phones in the US, which might explain why the T1 has been slow to ship
to customers. "Seeing a battery cell made in the Philippines tells us that
the T1 is unlikely to be selling in large volume," according to Mokhtari,
who notes that most batteries come from China
