  • How to listen to an Internet radio station with privacy from Google?

    From Maria Sophia@mariasophia@comprehension.com to comp.mobile.android on Mon Apr 13 03:29:36 2026
    From Newsgroup: comp.mobile.android

Q: How can we listen to an Internet radio station online with privacy?
    A: ?

In another thread just moments ago, it was mentioned that listening to
    <https://streema.com>
Or almost any Internet radio station hands your metadata to
    Google Analytics
    Google Ads
    Google Tag Manager
    Google Fonts
    Google CDN
    Facebook trackers
    Cloudflare beacons
    etc.

I don't do radio on my Android but Google tells me the way around that is
    1. VLC <org.videolan.vlc>
    2. MPV <is.xyz.mpv> no google dependencies whatsoever
    3. RadioDroid <net.programmierecke.radiodroid2>

What's wrong with those for privacy when listening to radio on the Android?
    1. https://github.com/videolan/vlc-android
    https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.videolan.vlc
    https://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-android.html
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.videolan.vlc

    2. https://github.com/mpv-android/mpv-android/releases
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=is.xyz.mpv
    https://f-droid.org/packages/is.xyz.mpv/

    3. https://f-droid.org/packages/net.programmierecke.radiodroid2/
    https://github.com/segler-alex/RadioDroid/releases

    Google tells me...
    1. VLC plays any audio/video stream, including direct radio URLs.
    2. MPV also has no ads, no analytics, no Google dependencies.
    3. RadioDroid lets you extract direct stream URLs without trackers.

Has anyone ever used them for this purpose of listening to Internet radio?
    What is your experience?

What else plays Internet radio on your Android with privacy from Google?
