PSA:
How to use Aurora/Shizuku to update apps silently & en masse
1. Connect the phone by USB to your PC
(or, set it up with wireless debugging instead)
2. Start Shizuku on the phone
C:\> adb shell sh /sdcard/Android/data/moe.shizuku.privileged.api/start.sh 3. Check that Shizuku is running
C:\> adb shell ps -A | grep shizuku
4. Check that Shizuku is connected
Android:Shizuku > Shizuku is running (Version 13.5, adb)
5. Check that Aurora is allowed to run Shizuku
Android:Shizuku > Authorized 1 Applications > Aurora
6. If desired, temporarily disable max concurrent processes
C:\> adb shell device_config put activity_manager max_phantom_processes 2147483647
7. Update all apps
Android:Aurora > Updates > Update all
8. When done, disable the max current processes override:
C:\> adb shell device_config delete activity_manager max_phantom_processes
Note that Aurora can update all apps, but it requires manual actions.
With Shizuku, the updates happen without user intervention.
Note, on my phone, the Google Play Store app can only update a puny number
of pre-loaded system apps, but never any app that I installed from the
Google Play Store repository using the Aurora google play store GUI.
Aurora is much more thorough than the Google Play Store update is.
When we open the Updates tab, Aurora scans every single package name
installed on our phone and asks the Google servers if an update exists.
