    Short of remote desktoping into my own remote computer or using a web-based Newsgroup Reader like https://newsgrouper.org/, are there any text-based native Newsreaders left for Android?
    Perhaps other than PhoNews? (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=3dat.cmg.android.phonews)
    com.cmgapps.android.phonewspro seems to just be the same thing again but somehow it's rated 4.9 with zero text reviews; I'm highly suspicious. Does anyone use this and can attest to it?
    I've done some research (or probably not enough) but most (actually: all that wasn't already mentioned above) Android-based clients are primarily for binaries, such as:
    * Usenet Panda (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=3dat.mann.usenetpanda)
    * NZBGet (https://nzbget.com/)
    * NZB360 (not really a NNTP client, but looks like a Plex-like client for usenet related services/daemons/apps/servers; https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=3dcom.kevinforeman.nzb360)
    * NZBLeech (https://nzbleech.info/ but APK is broken)
    And the ones from a previous discussion seem to all not exist anymore...
    * NewsGroup Reader (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=3dnet.piaohong.newsgroup)
    * Usenet Reader (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=3dken.android.nntpreader.pro)
    * Groundhog Newsnet Reader (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=3dcom.almarsoft.GroundhogReader)
    * News Command (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=3dflexisworld.news_commander)
    * EasyNews (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=3dcom.chillaxing.easynews) though it's weird that its unlocker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=3dcom.chillaxing.easynews.unlock) is still up.
    * NZB Mobile (https://www.nzbmobile.com/ and is binary)
    It's there something I missed? Any help would be appreciated.

    I'm currently posting this with PhoNews Pro. Cost me US$2 several years ago
    so I think I at least got my moneys worth even though it now has problems
    with newer versions of Android.

    I'm now using it on an Amazon Fire HD10 tablet that I modified to run the
    Google Play Store and its apps of which PhoNews is one. The Fire tablet
    series run an older version of Android (which they call Fire OS). PhoNews
    still works ok on these tablets.

    On my newer version tablets PhoNews often locks up on receiving and the
    circle (yes it has a busy circle) goes round and round never stopping.
    Force stopping it fixes it for awhile but it always comes back.

    Receiving on PhoNews always was slow sometimes taking 3 to 5 seconds per
    post. My favorite Android Newsreader Groundhog quit transmitting around
    Android 9 but still receives ok on later versions. So (don't laugh) I
    currently use Groundhog to receive and if I want to post I switch to this
    PhoNews... :-/

    Bottom line, I don't know of a good Android newsreader. The question pops up
    here occasionally but so far no answers. I'm hoping this time will be
    different...

    Thanks for your input. That particular page came up on my search too but: https://groups.google.com doesn't support usenet anymore as of Feb 2024 (is
    basically an archive) and the info there is generally out of date. ICYMI:
    https://support.google.com/groups/answer/11036538 or https://support.google.com/groups?p=usenet

    Also, other than PhoNews, the "does not exist" issue persists.

    Unfortunately, I'm one of the people who spoke with Google representatives about them allowing tons of spam and what Google did was kill the archives.

    Both topics have terribly lousy answers:
    Q: What's a good usenet archive web-based search engine sans login?
    Q: What's a good usenet newsreader for Android?

    I'd be perfectly happy if you found a useable newsreader for the team.
    See AJL's post, where he knows a lot and has been thru the mill also.

    You might also want to try news.software.readers but don't expect much.
    Good luck!

    Let us know what you find out, as I pointed you to my main posts already.

    I'm using 'PiaoHong Mod' which is derives from NewsGroup Reader in
    your list. (There was originally a free and a 'pro' (ad-free)
    version of PiaoHong's app, with slightly different names and
    logos - Newsgroups and NewsReader IIRC.) Piaio Hong was the
    developer - I corresponded with him years ago. It stopped working
    many versions of Android ago - version 2 never worked properly
    and I suspect was produced by somebody else. PiaoHong Mod was
    built by 'Alfio' who posted it on it.tlc.cellulari.android. I
    summarised it on news.software.readers: <https://csiph.com/group/news.software.readers/a/uo41vk%24124mn%242@dont-email.me>

    I think the link to download Mod 17 at the end of that thread
    still works. If not it's posted regularly in the Italian NG
    above. Mod versions produced by Alfio derive from the free app
    and all AFAIK still have one-line adverts. (I think he and others
    in the Italian NG use an ad-blocker.) The app has faults -
    filtering is poor - but it's quite usable.

    I use it on an Android 13 tablet. I think it works in 16. But it's
    old and can be tricky to install; it needs some extra permissions
    IIRC.

    Have you tried the modified versions of PiaoHong? Alfio in the it.tlc.cellulari.android NG made some mods. This is from a post there
    26/02/24 (run through Google translate):

    OriginalColor: https://mega.nz/file/uYJSwBJD#3Ya4p0HpSczyt95c_MnXjyBXYqP5J_Phkz0gZ9RbkCI

    ModColor: https://mega.nz/file/CIhiFKDT#H4FvPyZ_SIWKitPvaUxjKstjNmgPJhyMqwZxI4VkWVE

    Nothing new on the color front, but I added two new
    settings:
    1- "Display orphaned messages", the feature was already present
    in the M16, but not everyone liked it; now you can ignore it.
    Using it modifies the data in the internal DB, so it is
    recommended to reset the groups and refresh them when
    you change this setting. Otherwise, you may see inconsistencies between messages saved before and after changing the option.
    2- "Custom headers": You can define the attributes that
    make up the header of a message. They must be written one
    per line, separating the ID from the text with the sequence ":" (colon
    space). There is no control over what you write; the
    server you post to will tell you what is incorrect during
    sending.

    There may be later mods; I'm not sure. The above are the latest mods
    listed at <https://mega.nz/folder/7yhzFSYA#dGGTmFcuO_ags9lZRrFoqA>

    There's nothing later. That link was reposted on May 4th by Taf, who

    Thanks for the confirmation that it's still the latest. I hadn't
    realised until I checked that it was over 2 years ago!
