The whole Ubisoft debacle is awful enough that I hesitate to dredge it
up again. I bet Ubisoft wishes it would go away too. Fortunately (for
everyone but Ubisoft) the executives in question were found guilty and
no longer work at the company. Ubisoft probably thought the worst was
behind them.
Turns out, not so fast. The question about how much the higher-ups at
Ubisoft knew about the behaviour of their subordinates is still in
doubt, and now Yves Guillemot has been subpoenaed to appear before the
local district court to answer some questions.* Ubisoft is, of course,
trying to spin this as being nothing in importance but it may be that
others in the C-levels will be facing fines or charges for turning a
blind eye to the long history of misconduct by their employees.
Can't say I'm too sorry if that happens. This sort of thing isn't
unique to Ubisoft (although it may be the worst) but too often it's
just swept under the carpets and the C-levels get away Scott-free even
if some of their employees are found guilty. It would be nice if some
of them start facing consequences for their choices.
