The reviews are not at all favorable. Apparently the learning curve is
_steep_ and the game offers no tutorial or hand-holding; it is very
much a RTFM game, although in this case it seems to be VTFW (Visit The
Fucking Wiki). The core idea sounds intriguing, but the implementation
leaves a lot to be desired.

In this it reminds me a lot of games from the earliest era of
video-gaming, when you were expected to bang your head against the
game for a few weeks before it even started to make sense. It was a
combination of artificially lengthing a game's longevity, a lack of
computing resources to offer a more streamlined onboarding, and just a
general lack of sophistication in game design. The idea that you'd
have to teach people to play your games first to make them enjoyable
    just wasn't well understood.

You could argue that modern gamers have become 'spoiled' or 'lazy',
but I personally think the improved accessibility is a GOOD thing. It
lets people focus on mastering the mechanics rather than just figuring
out the basics. There's certainly no excuse for developers to not put
the effort in to make it easier for people to understand how to
play... especially since there are so many other games available that
will do just that. You're shooting yourself in the foot as a
game-developer if you skip that step.

Anyway, I didn't take it. It doesn't seem a game I'd play, and even if
I ever did, not one I'd stick with for the reasons mentioned above.
Which is a bit of a shame because, as I said, I think the underlying
idea of a chess game where you can modify your pieces to become more
useful is sort of neat. But I'm sure somebody else either has done it
    better, or will soon.

Oh gah, like Atari 2600 games like E.T., Indiana Jones, Superman, etc.

Chicken 'selection' chess? Sounds intriguing. I'm in.

Yes, I probably won't like it.

Haha.. so true. I owned all three of those and I had no fucking idea
what to do in any of them. I was too young at the time and had no
interest in reading game manuals back then. So I just kept playing
Adventure over and over. I can't rescue E.T. but I can get through
    those Adventure mazes blindfolded.

My older church friend figured them out and told me because he RTFMs.
Ha. Yeah, I didn't and still don't like to read too. I just wanted to
play simple games like Adventure, Combat, Yar's Revenge, Asteroids,
Pitfall, Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, etc. Isn't that what
    action games are for? :P

I would say the majority of RPGs are pretty easy to figure out too.
For me, it is really just turned based strategy games where I will
likely need some help to figure things out. At least the older
ones.... which are usually the ones I play.
