    We're all busy, but if there's one thing that gets us to slow down a
    bit, it's free games. Fortunately, I know a place where they just
    happen to be giving some away today. Let's go see what they've got
    waiting for us.

    * Ghostrunner 2
    https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/ghostrunner-2
    Nominally a cyberpunk-themed first-person shooter,
    the "Ghostrunner" games owe almost as much to mobile
    runner games. While they don't force constant forward
    motion on the player (you can stop and walk around,
    even go back and explore!), a lot of the experience
    is around maintaining your momentum. It's a sort of
    game where speedrunning (minus the clever hacks) is
    sort of the main theme. As such, it's rather niche in
    its fanbase, and if you don't love the challenge of
    finding just the perfect path to maximize your jumps
    and speed, you probably won't get much enjoyment from
    this game. It sure does look pretty, though. (This
    game is a dupe from December 2024, so you may already
    have it)

    * Monument Valley 2 https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/monument-valley-2-addd02
    The sequel to last week's freebie; there's really nothing
    to say about it that couldn't be said about the first. It's
    an okay game, but it's really 'more of the same' and it
    still feels very much what it is: a port of a mobile game.
    It's fine.

    * Battle of Polytopia https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/the-battle-of-polytopia-12fed6
    A turn-based strategy game of some sort. This one has roots
    in the mobile market too, and it looks it. It's designed
    for short bouts of gameplay, not long complicated campaigns.
    There's not much variety between the different tribes though.
    It's not really a game that does much to stand out from the
    crowd; you probably won't hate it if you play it, but at the
    same time, why bother when there are better games available?

    Okay, that's enough loafing around and grabbing free games. Everybody
    back to work! You'll get another break in seven days! ;-)

    The Number thanks you for your service. May your video game library
    become untenably large and it become impossible to find any game worth
    playing in the mess. Amen.
