Hey, a free game I actually care about! Will wonders never cease?

If the title of this game rings a bell, give yourself a pat
on the back, because you're officially old (and then seek
medical help because you probably just dislocated something
with that manuever ;-). Originally released as a shareware
title way back in 1995 for DOS computers, this was a poor-
man's "Wing Commander"; not really bad in concept, but
lacking originality and polish. Then again, that could be
said for a lot of DOS-era games, so was it really so bad?
Anyway, the original developer has since updated it to run
on modern hardware and added a few new features. Still, it's
mostly the same game as you may have played thirty years ago.

Oh, Star Quest 1; you had me at "DOS-era".
(and maybe "free" ;-)

Haven't played it, or even heard of it. It looks cool, I wonder if it
works with a controller? I suppose I can try to dust off my kbm skills,
but my hands/elbows/shoulders can't handle that more than an hour a day
at this point.

Reportedly, one of the major feature-adds by the developer was full
support for controllers, mice, joysticks and HOTAS setups. That, and
making sure it runs on modern Windows. Otherwise, it's still the
crunky old game from 1995, with the same pixellated visuals and
gameplay.
I'll admit, I like it mostly because it's an old DOS game. I've played
it a bit, and I wouldn't really say its good. It's not terrible... but
there are better games --even from the DOS days-- that you could spend
your time with. But if you've gotta spend your time and effort
remaking something, better something from three years ago than
remastering a five-year old game (yeah, I'm looking at you, Sony!)
