So, here's something I didn't know. Although Epic has no interest in
selling or maintaining the old Unreal games, they've given permission
to archive.org to host ISOs for the ancient shooters. So if you want,
you can pick up Unreal Gold and Unreal Tournament from those servers, legitimately. It almost makes me want to take back a few of the bad
things I've said about Epic. Almost.

And now Unreal Tournament 2004 has gotten the nod too. Epic has given permission to archive to host it there legitimately too. Of course,
getting a 22 year-old game to run on modern systems might be a bit
tricky, so the kids at OldUnreal have announced an installer and
community patch to help you with all that.

    installer:
    https://www.oldunreal.com/downloads/ut2004/full-game-installers/
    community patch: https://github.com/OldUnreal/UT2004Patches/releases/tag/3374-preview-9

This development is less important to me, personally, than it might be
to others. I still have my old CDs, and I even managed to snag the
game on GOG (before Epic stopped selling it there). Anyway, I never
cared all that much for the later Unreal Tournament games anyway; as
far as I'm concerned, the series peaked back in 2000 with the original
"Unreal Tournament". After that, it just felt like they kept
kitchen-sinking the games, throwing in new ideas and features for the
sake of adding new stuff, rather than keeping to the simplicity and
    balance of the original.

But YMMV, and if you miss those classics, well now you have an
opportunity to play the games again.

Unreal Tournament may be my favorite game of all time. The 1st one
2004. In fact, I may boot it up now as it is installed! :-)

That intro, amirite? It might not have been quite as pretty as the
intro in the original "Unreal", but it was jaw-dropping nonetheless.
The city-scape it demo'd was, for its time, amazingly detailed, filled
with lights and colors, and shown off from the depths of the sewers to
    the heights of the buildings.

The game itself was great too. That AI was so impressive; it still
    holds up today.

I can't, in any honesty, say "Unreal Tournament" is my favorite game,
but I definitely have fond memories of it and hold it in far more
regard than most of its competitors.
