With the gaming industry having used the term "AI" to refer to basic
procedural difficulty settings and scripting (where the ape throwing
barrels down ladders in Donkey Kong counts as A.I.), I was wondering
when "real AI" would show up in games.

Not really surprising that the initial innovation in PC gaming is
happening in first person multiplayer tactical shooters (let alone one
that's been out for years, is still popular and still improving).

Disclaimer: I have not tried this yet in PUBG, and it looks like a
novelty and something that subtracts from immersion of a tactical
shooter more than it adds.... but at least its a start? maybe?

I tried this today and it's actually quite a good time.

Being able to so easily give directives to your bot, without the
limitations of something like a "command wheel" or similar UI input
    really adds something.

Just for example "I need a scope for my SKS, see if you can find me
one" and for her to remember to notify you and ping the location
really comes in handy. If playing with humans, sure they might do
that or they might not... the good thing about bots is that they don't
expect favors in return. Plus, humans may or may not know how or be
willing to use a microphone during team play, or may come with other complications like an unpredictable skill level or knowledge of the
    game.

What's no-so-good-but-I-expect-to-improve is that the bot talks like a
female bank teller, which isn't exactly impressive and needs replaced
with something like a real solder voice and personality, and you don't
    get a choice of bots.

Now that I've actually tried this, I think it has a tremendous amount
of potential and I'm looking forward to similar features in games. It
would be great if they build it out to the point where you can help
shape persistent, individual personalities with discrete playing
styles and attitudes that you could bring into a match as needed.

I started watching some other guy try an AI bot, the bot was way worse
than in that first video. It seemed to take a while to start shooting
at an enemy and appeared to miss all the time. It also said 'Honestly'
    over and over.

Yeah the voice started getting annoying pretty quick too.

The bot is definitely not perfect or anywhere near being in the realm
as a human team mate in terms of effectiveness in most cases. I've
seen it do some stupid shit like not be able to figure out how to
follow me up a small stair case only a few feet high.

But being able to give natural language commands and have it mostly
follow, plus the fact it can be quite good at spotting the enemy and pinpointing their general location (better than most humans I'd say)
    makes up for it.

It's definitely not for those looking for good or interesting
conversation from the bot, that's just not what it is.
