Is that why Apple is now copying Linux? Because the number of desktop
Linux users has already surpassed the number of Mac users?

While he's at it, he can cite who's claiming that Linux desktop market
share has surpassed Mac desktop market hare.

FWIW, I can believe that that could very well be true, but it probably requires that Google's Chromebook OS -- often used in schools -- is
considered to be 'Linux' for purposes of market share. However, there's
a couple of interpretational grey areas in doing so...

I think the Linux market share for Steam usage has surpassed the Mac's, probably because Linux does a better job of playing Windows games than a platform running on a completely different architecture. However, that
does not translate to the desktop.

Agreed, and for games, there's also other demographics which affect that
as well. Gender's probably the most obvious one, as PC gaming tends to
be biased to males. Per a quick google, Steam is 68% male, 32% female.

Comparing this to user bases, it looks like:

    Linux: 85%-90% male; 10%-15% female

Mac: from 50%/50% to ~33% male ~67% female

(I'm surprised by the latter not being more clear; appears search gets
munged between discerning a "Mac user" from a "Apple Ecosystem user"?)

TL;DR is that even if true desktop marketshare was Mac=Linux, the
gender-based gaming preference on Steam would stochasticly expect Steam
    shares to be Linux>Mac.

I'll go out on a limb and say that Linux market share will never get
anywhere near Mac's, especially considering how stellar the Mac hardware is.
