Even AI has figured out what a fucking piece of shit snit (Michael
    Glasser) is.

"Marek Novotny and Snit (real name Michael Glasser) were frequent
antagonists in the comp.os.linux.advocacy (COLA) Usenet newsgroup, known
for intense, often abusive personal attacks and heated technical debates. Novotny, who identified as a "true Linux advocate," frequently clashed
with Snit, who criticized Linux desktop environments like KDE and
Cinnamon for alleged bugs and inconsistencies.

    The conflict involved:

Technical Disputes: Novotny and other advocates accused Snit of lacking technical skill and lying about his qualifications (e.g., a Master's
degree), while Snit argued that Linux desktops suffered from poor quality control and inconsistent behavior compared to macOS.
Personal Attacks: Discussions often devolved into insults, with Novotny calling Snit a "moron" and Snit labeling Novotny a "fool" or "scam
artist." Snit also made serious allegations, such as claiming Novotny
sent him a MacBook that Snit then sold.
Identity Wars: Both parties engaged in "nym-shifting" accusations, with Novotny attempting to verify his identity via email and GitHub, and Snit
being accused by others of using multiple aliases (including "Cactus
    Pete") to troll."

Heh, I just did a search for myself with Snit for the heck of it. It's
quite amazing how well AI can do a summary of what was happening in comp.os.linux.advocacy. Nonetheless, it claims that I used terms like "deadbeat" to refer to Snit, something I never did. I called him a
faggot and a parasite, but definitely not a deadbeat.

It is evidence of the harm the trolls do. Notice AI *NEVER* actually shows a MID or quote to suggest I have done as accused. What it does, largely, is look at the accusations and integrate them. GIGO.

antagonists in the comp.os.linux.advocacy (COLA) Usenet newsgroup, known
for intense, often abusive personal attacks and heated technical debates.

I liked the technical sides. They did sometimes get heated in absurd ways. One of the biggies was Marek wrote a tool that tied into open source VPN tools where he could have it so when the VPN was active some apps would not run (or would quit if they were running) and vice versa (some apps would not run without it). He was very proud of it. What was odd was his saying Linux beat macOS because I could not write a similar script for macOS. I am NOT a coder!
I am a self described "shitty scripter". But for him it was both personal and tied to the OSs. I never got that.

In any case, I finally did get a VPN (Windscribe) and it was open source. That fit his criteria. Seems the firewall built into the app served the same
purpose and did it better, but he wanted it scripted like his. OK, I know a
BIT of AppleScript and it turned out the script was easy... where his was hundreds of lines I did the same thing with just a few.

    --------
    set myIP to "[redacted]"
    set quitVPNoff to ("Terminal", "QuickTime Player"}
    set quitVPNon to {"Network Diagnostics", "TextEdit"}
    repeat
set extIP to do shell script "dig +short myip.opendns.com
    @resolver1.opendns.com"
tell application "System Events" to set appList to get name
of every process whose visible = true
repeat with loop from 1 to count of items in appList
set theApp to item loop of appList
if quitVPNoff contains theApp and mylP = extIP then
tell application theApp to quit without saving
if quitVPNon contains theApp and myIP * extIP then
tell application theApp to quit without saving
    end repeat
    end repeat
    --------

I like that macOS (and Windscribe) let me do what he did -- in 12 lines of
code and not being a coder of any talent at all.

In the end he acknowledged that my script passed his test. I commend him for even in a heated debate where we disagreed he was able to admit when his challenge was met.

Novotny, who identified as a "true Linux advocate," frequently clashed
with Snit, who criticized Linux desktop environments like KDE and
Cinnamon for alleged bugs and inconsistencies.

I did, but I also spoke well of them and talked of my use. At the time I ran Linux computer labs for schools. I was a Linux advocate as well (or, really, a tech advocate -- advocating for Linux, Windows, macOS, or whatever else worked for a user).

    The conflict involved:

Technical Disputes: Novotny and other advocates accused Snit of lacking technical skill and lying about his qualifications (e.g., a Master's
    degree),

I pretty much never speak of my degrees -- but some jealous trolls bring it
up. It is rarely relevant to anything discussed in these groups.

while Snit argued that Linux desktops suffered from poor quality
control and inconsistent behavior compared to macOS.

A tiny bit of what I said. I also spoke of how amazing Linux was for users.

Personal Attacks: Discussions often devolved into insults, with Novotny calling Snit a "moron" and Snit labeling Novotny a "fool" or "scam
    artist."

I do not recall calling him that but it was a long time ago.

Snit also made serious allegations, such as claiming Novotny
sent him a MacBook that Snit then sold.

He did send it to me. For free. Including shipping. And we talked a fair
amount off line. We got along well there. The COLA group was very toxic and people feared standing up to the BS.

Identity Wars: Both parties engaged in "nym-shifting" accusations, with Novotny attempting to verify his identity via email and GitHub,

I do not remember him ever socking up.

    and Snit
being accused by others of using multiple aliases (including "Cactus
    Pete") to troll."

    Accusations are insane there.

It is insane... especially when it is clear nobody really remembers and it has been corrupted by years of playing telephone.

Mark made mistakes -- we all do -- but overall he was a good and generous man and I miss his contributions.
