Missouri State Sen. Mike Moon defended child
marriage on Tuesday, touting the apparently
successful marriage of people he knows who
got married when they were 12.

Nearly 300,000 minors — the vast majority of them
girls — were legally married in the United States
between 2000 and 2018, the year statehouses finally
began taking action. Child marriage, defined as any
marriage where at least one of the parties is under
the age of 18, was legal in all 50 states until
then.

Fathers have the right to choose husbands for their daughters and marry
them off, even if the daughter is under the completely arbitrary age of eighteen.
Those who try to usurp this deserve to be gunned down in the street.
