CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Multiple bars across North Carolina have dropped Sycamore Brewing products after the brewery’s co-owner was accused of
raping a 13-year-old girl in Stanly County this week.
The co-owner -- 44-year-old Justin Tawse Brigham -- was allegedly caught
by the girl’s parents in her bedroom in Stanfield, just before midnight on Wednesday, Dec. 10.
After the girl’s parents called 911, the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office said Brigham was found near the house, naked in a car.
Brigham was charged with statutory rape of a child, indecent liberties
with a child, and first-degree burglary. He appeared in Stanly County
court on Thursday and had his bond set at $10 million. He was being held
at the Stanly County jail.
Anyone with additional information about the case should contact the
Stanly County Sheriff’s Office’s investigative division at 704-986-3714 or

Sycamore fallout
Following news of Brigham’s arrest, his wife and Sycamore Brewing co-owner said in a statement that she was “devastated” by the charges. She said she took full leadership of the brewery and Brigham would have “no further involvement.”
Despite the brewery’s split with Brigham, multiple bars across the state have said they would stop selling Sycamore beers.
Among them were Bargarita in Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood, and Freya’s Haus in Wilmington.
Bargarita posted a picture on social media Thursday, which showed Sycamore beer being poured down the sink drain. In the bar’s caption, it said it
was “heartbroken and disgusted by the news.” Bargarita said its riddance of Sycamore beer was effective immediately.
Freya’s Haus also said it was pulling the brewery’s beer, and said that every dollar from what’s left of Sycamore products will be donated to a local rape crisis center.
“We believe accountability and care for people matter more than silence,” Freya’s Haus wrote on Instagram.
Hoppin’, The Union, and Tilt on Trade in Charlotte were among others that said they would no longer serve the brewery’s products.
Another bar in Tennessee was supposed to have a “Pint Night” event featuring Sycamore on Friday, but has since canceled it.
Sycamore was started by Brigham and his wife in 2013, and according to its website, became the largest Charlotte-born brewery.
