This version (0.5) is a public demo version. It is BETA and there is
no registered version yet. If you have any trouble please let me
know. Two different versions are available:
- Toyland.zip is the hi-color version
- Toyland-256.zip is the 256 color version
If your computer is able to run hi-color I highly recommend the hi-color
version.
The game has been tested since early August by 33 beta testers. This is the
first public version.
This game has most features of the final Shareware version. However there
might still be some problems with certain hardware combinations and some
add-ons are being made (see
The Future of Toyland)
- OS/2: The game has been tested on Warp only but it should also work
with 2.x
- A graphic adapter with at least 256 colors / better with hi-color
- The emx-runtime OR full emx package. If you don't have either of these
you can download them from nearly any OS/2 site and they are on most
OS/2 CDs. If you don't know how to get them please contact me.
To install the game simply unzip Toyland.zip (or
Toyland-256.zip) to a directory of your choice. Either create
a program icon for Toyland.exe or type Toyland
at the command prompt. The game must be started from
its directory - so if you create a program icon make sure you set the
Working directory to the respective path. You need the emx-runtime
package OR the full version of emx. If you don't have either of these
you can download them from nearly any OS/2 site and they are on most
OS/2 CDs. If you don't know how to get them please contact me.
The game creates files (players, options) only in the start directory.
It doesn't change the system's ini-files or your config.sys so you
just have to delete the directory to get rid of Toyland. However if you
installed the emx-runtime package for Toyland and want to remove it
as well make sure you delete the respective files.
The release version of Toyland will be available in December. Registration
will be possible in November. Development will continue even after the
release is available. The development will mostly depend on the number
of registrations.
Release Version (Shareware)
The release version will have (almost) all of the bugs you report fixed.
It will also have music and joystick support.
Some graphics and animations will also be added to the game. The sound
will be improved. I will add your ideas.
Registered Version
- Levels can be exported / imported. They can be exchanged via email since
they are 7-bit encoded. If you join the Toyland mailing list you can
send your levels and receive others - so there is no limit to the
number of levels.
- All levels will be available to the registered users. Each additional
level set can be used by (and only by) registered users without additional
fee. However I cannot say how many levels will be available in November.
- All worlds (states) will be available to the registered users. I will
continue development. The CPU state is currently under construction.
Others are planned (a train state for example). There is no guarantee that
CPU is ready by November but it will be available by the end of the
year.
- Full support by the author: I am interested in everything you report.
If you have ideas, bug reports or problems: I am all ears - and those
ears hear better on the registered side ;-)
- Easy upgrade: Whenever a new version of Toyland is released you can
simply use your reg-file to have it registered.
- - IF there will ever be a Power-PC version (that is if there will ever be
a good OS/2 for PowerPC - and I can afford to buy a PowerPC + OS/2) your
registration will be valid for the PowerPC version as well.
Everybody can join the mailing list. All Toyland beta testers are on
the list as well so that you can:
- get the latest development information
- see release dates
- give your own ideas to be included in the game
- discuss your impression / ideas
- (as soon as the registered version will be available) exchange levels
- and, and, and
