Bounded by Greece on the north and west and with Turkey on the east, the Aegean Sea is one of the four major basins of the Mediterranean Sea. More than 3,000 islands are scattered across the approximately 93,664 square miles (240,000 square kilometer) expanse of the saltwater sea. Some of the islands are uninhabited, but many residents and tourists enjoy the spectacular scenery and mild temperatures and sun-filled skies of many of these islands.
The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image of the Greece, Turkey and the Aegean Sea on June 28, 2019.
