Light and Glory over Crete Image Credit & Copyright: [3]Tomás Slovinský Explanation: The month was July, the place was the [4]Greek island of [5]Crete, and the sky was spectacular. Of course there were the usual stars like [6]Polaris, [7]Vega, and [8]Antares -- and that common [9]asterism everyone knows: the [10]Big Dipper. But this sky was just getting started. The band of the [11]Milky Way Galaxy [12]stunned as it arched across the night like a bridge made of [13]stars and [14]dust but dotted with red nebula like candy. The planets [15]Saturn and Jupiter were so bright you wanted to stop people on the beach and point them out. The [16]air glowed like a [17]rainbow -- but what really grabbed the glory was a comet. Just above the northern horizon, [18]Comet NEOWISE spread its [19]tails like nothing you had ever seen before or might ever see again. [20]Staring in amazement, there was only one thing to do: take a [21]picture.
